In the town of Gnidyn, Kiev region, unidentified people beat and robbed the mayor of Brovary, Igor Sapozhko.
This was reported by the media with reference to an informed source, and the information was later confirmed by the police.
According to anonymous interlocutors from Obozrevatel, the attack took place at the mayor’s house. There were five criminals.
«They tied up the mayor, his wife and their son. Threatening with weapons, the attackers seized 10 thousand dollars, in addition to jewelry, ”said the source.
The police of the Kiev region, in a comment to the Interfax-Ukraine news agency, clarified that Sapozhko was beaten and robbed on the night of Tuesday, December 22.
Information on the health status of Mayor Brovary is being specified.
The police opened a criminal proceeding and the search for the attackers continues.
Igor Sapozhko has served as mayor of Brovary since 2008. In 2010, he ran for mayor by the Party of Regions, from which he emerged at the end of Euromaidan on February 20, 2014.
In the 2020 local elections, the current mayor of Brovarov Igor Sapozhko (Igor Sapozhko’s Team Party – Unist) received the support of 13,798 voters (44.07%). Second place was taken by Dmitry Ratnikov, a candidate from the Servant of the People party with 4186 votes. (13.37%).
The Golos party filed a lawsuit in relation to the recorded facts of violation of electoral legislation, namely, the secrecy of the vote. Each ballot in the city’s polling stations had an individual number and this number was on the control coupon, which made it possible to verify who a particular voter was voting for.
Repeated elections in Brovary will be held on January 17, 2021.
