José Mourinho’s team could not show their desire to win, conceding a goal in each half (0: 2).

At the top of the English Premier League standings over the course of the fourteenth round, Liverpool’s motives were already beginning to ring out, which definitely couldn’t suit Tottenham in London. But what could be done, given that that was the price of losing to Jurgen Klopp’s team in the head-to-head showdown at Anfield? It would appear that the national championship season continues to gather momentum, but instead the first third of total fights has already been surpassed.
Half of the Premier League this season started right around Christmas and, as everyone knows, the notorious “boxing day” begins during this period, when teams play each other without a full right to respite. In general, the game of “spurs” and Lester could be considered as one of the dishes for the next festive table, but the main prize for the final success was quite prestigious – the right to immediately find a place in the second line of tournament table.
Unfortunately, José Mourinho’s team did not want to participate in this type of competition. A painful defeat to Liverpool (1: 2), it seems, hit the psychology of the team, which was especially noticeable at the end of the briefing. Overall, Tottenham only lasted half an hour of meaningful football, however there were no shots on Schmeichel’s shots on goal during this period so there was no cause for discussion.
Also, there was no reason to consider the game “foxes” outstanding. The classic uproar in midfield would sometimes end with teams coming in from the flanks, but the density in the penalty area was instantly created so high that there was virtually no chance of completion, even with such a solid set of players. Kane’s header over the bar in the 41st minute is the first reason to speak of a missed opportunity.
But after a few minutes there was only talk of the situation within Harry’s penalty team. Aurier did a thoughtless shove on Fofan’s back in the right corner of his team’s possessions, which on “VAR reality” doesn’t go unnoticed. Penalty Vardy made exactly in the center of the gate.
Mourinho had absolutely no ground for changes after the break, so an experienced specialist decided to release Gareth Bale at random. The mentor miscalculated with the player who left the field – within minutes he was injured when Lo Celso fell to the pitch, so another replacement had to be “burned”. And that’s okay, all these rotations brought at least some benefit.
Tottenham opened early, but instantly received a shot from midfield, sending Fofan into an offside position for Maddison. The referee disallowed the goal, but it was obvious that the “spurs” would advance in later situations, thus still conceding their next goal.
And so it happened. In the 59th minute, Vardy “cheated” on Alderweireld, hitting the opponent’s thigh with his head, closing off Albrighton’s serve from the right flank. An own goal strengthened Leicester’s leading position in the fight, after which the Foxes could simply end the game. Tottenham only to a small extent withstood such a scenario, so the result is in the face: Mourinho’s side was the first at the beginning of the week, and now they risk falling outside the expected zone of the UEFA Champions League.
In the next round, Tottenham London will face Wolverhampton on the road, while Leicester will host Manchester United.
Tottenham – Leicester 0: 2
