Zaporizhzhya “Motor” ended the year in the Champions League with a home match against French vice-champion “Nantes”, extending its brilliant winning streak in the European tournament to six matches. At the same time, the Cossacks again showed character. The French club has come to Zaporozhye three times before and has never won. It is true that the same applies to “Motor”: in the three previous duels at the site of origin of the Cossacks, draws were recorded. But this time things turned out differently.
In the opening segment of the match, the hosts managed to secure a comfortable three-goal lead. Vyacheslav Bohan’s shot went off, which the French defense could not cope with. Looking ahead, we note that already in the first half of the match, Vyacheslav hit the opponent’s goal six times. And yet the guests managed to level the score gap. A second before the halftime siren, Niokas tied the score, thus ending the first half. A tie on the scoreboard after the results of the first 30 minutes was also in the game two weeks ago, by the way.
But in the second half, the French began to take the initiative, and the Cossacks had to recover. When the advantage was “+3” in favor of “Nantes”, the result of the match became alarming. And then goalkeeper Frost got injured. The gates of the Zaporozhye club came out to defend Gennady Komok, who had twice rejected opponents’ shots from the 7-meter line. And the experienced goalkeeper became one of the heroes of the final segment of the match. The bundle distinguished itself with several brilliant stops, which dashed the hopes of the French for a successful outcome of the confrontation.
A little over a minute before the end of the game, “Motor” bounces two balls. Complicated the task of the Cossacks were two changes in a row in its composition. But Lump once again helps, and all the guests were able to accomplish was one more goal 10 seconds before the siren. The best sniper of the fight, as in Nantes, was Bohan.
