Borussia Mönchengladbach forward Markus Thuram did not finish
The French forward received a direct red card after the intervention of the VAR. After studying the referee’s relationship, the case will be reviewed by the control committee of the DFB.
According to the kicker, Thuram will receive at least a six-game suspension. According to the DFB code, spitting at an opponent, such as a kick, hit, shove, or bite, is considered an act of violence. Under the rules, an offender can be suspended from six games to six months.
There have recently been two similar incidents in the Bundesliga. In September, Schalke defender Ozan Kabak spat in the direction of Werder Bremen player Ludwig Augstinson, for which he was suspended for four games. And in April 2019, Stuttgart midfielder Santiago Askasibar spat at Bayer player Kai Havertz and was suspended for six games.
After the game, Borussia Monchengladbach coach Marco Rose apologized for what happened and said “there is no room for such behavior on the football field.” Christoph Kramer criticized his teammate and Gladbach midfielder, generally condemning the players’ spitting. Later, on his social networks, Markus Thuram himself apologized for the incident, indicating that he would accept any punishment.
