The director of a specialized orphanage in the Odessa region, Viktor Protsenko, faces up to 10 years in prison for possible corruption of children.

The director of a specialized orphanage in the Odessa region received a suspicion of sexual abuse and child abuse. This was reported by the press service of the Regional Prosecutor’s Office.

In a comment to Hromadske, the prosecutor’s office pointed out that it was Viktor Protsenko.

According to the investigation, from June 2018 to August 2020, he systematically brought three underage students to his office under the pretext of spending time together: watching cartoons, playing games together, treating them to candy and the like.

“In the future, the head of the orphanage, using his trust, authority and influence over the children, his position of dependence and inability to resist, repeatedly committed sexual violence and depraved actions against the children,” the prosecution said.

Now the question of choosing a preventive measure for the suspect is being decided. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

The investigation into Protsenko began in September this year. Then one of the employees of the orphanage went to the police and said that the director of the institution corrupts three girls, who are between five and seven years old, reported the police press service.

Protsenko himself called all these statements libelous and also said that he had been removed from work. In a comment to Hromadske, he said that he actually brought the children to his office, but only because they asked. According to him, he simply gave the children toys.
