Former lightweight world champion Vasily Lomachenko spoke about his loss in the fight with Teofimo Lopez. The Ukrainian admitted that despite a shoulder injury, he believed in victory in this fight.

“For me it was essential to become the undisputed champion at this moment, because he is here and now. Everything is done. The fight was promoted, four belts were at stake. I try to explain that I don’t know what could have happened next. If I had canceled the fight, if we had rescheduled it, I don’t know when I could have organized the fight and if we could have organized it.

I thought I could win anyway. I believed this. This was not an understatement. I didn’t say Lopez was weak, but I thought he could win anyway. Also, he had experience with Linares. I understood that in my moral and volitional qualities, in my character, I would bring out this fight, ”Lomachenko said.

As a reminder, in the fight for the absolute lightweight title, Vasily Lomachenko lost to Teofimo López by unanimous decision: 112-116, 111-117, 109-119.

It was previously reported that the Ukrainian will continue to serve in the lightweight division.
