Six million Ukrainians will be able to vaccinate
This figure is several times lower than that announced by the Ministry of Health. At the moment, the country can have only 6,000 vaccines.
Ukraine has the capacity to buy vaccines to immunize 2.1 million people, which represents only 5% of the total population. This is reported by Bloomberg, which tracks contracts signed with major vaccine manufacturers.
In addition, Ukraine will receive vaccines through COVAX. Therefore, the total number of vaccinations in Ukraine will be enough to vaccinate only six million citizens.
By comparison, Russia plans to cover 55% of the population, which is almost 80 million people. However, the Russian Federation will do this with its national Sputnik vaccine, which has not yet passed all stages of international testing and certification.
Bloomberg also points out that the distribution of the vaccine in the world will be uneven and it may turn out that rich countries reserve triple the doses for themselves, and the poor will receive nothing. In particular, due to transportation difficulties.
We will recall, the Ministry of Health previously said that through COVAX Ukraine is guaranteed to receive eight million doses of COVID-19 vaccine for free.
Today, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy admitted that Ukraine is not yet on the list of 92 countries that will receive the vaccine as a priority, but they are “working very hard” on this.
