Legendary athlete, actor, and writer Chuck Norris never fails to amaze his fans with new hobbies. Despite her 80 years, the star leads an active lifestyle. And recently, Norris began collaborating with the developers of the famous video game World of Tanks.

In an exclusive interview for OBOZREVATEL, the idol of millions of people around the world said what he has in common with a video game, what movies he prefers to watch and who he is friends with the superheroes of the past. He also shared a personal story about meeting his wife Jena and frankly said that it has been helping them maintain a happy marriage for almost 24 years. Chuck Norris also named his rules of life, which he would like to inspire OBOZREVATEL readers.

During his distinguished career, he has participated in many large and high-budget film projects. What attracted you to the new “video game” project created in collaboration with the Wargaming team?

– I served in the military and those years were the beginning of my career in martial arts and film. World of Tanks is a mid-20th century tank battle game featuring American vehicles from my time in service. So I have some points of contact with this game. Plus, World of Tanks lets you have fun, virtually shoot other players (and vice versa), and learn a lot about military history along the way. And lastly, the guys at Wargaming are passionate about their work – tanks are just like the real thing. And I appreciate the hard work.

You starred in the New Years video dedicated to the game event in World of Tanks… Can you share how it was created? Has the pandemic affected the filming process?

– The “New Years Offensive” event in World of Tanks begins annually in December. Crown the year with tons of gifts and a special atmosphere. Unsurprisingly, gamers love this. I hope this time you are happy to meet virtual Chuck Norris at the Christmas tree.

In the trailer for New Years Offensive 2021, I play a guard who comes to the aid of a key character and makes sure the celebration goes according to plan. Okay, if you haven’t seen it yet, watch out – spoilers below! There is a small town in the mountains, and its neighbors are starting a New Year’s party. But the cat gets stuck in the treetop. And this is where my character comes in. To save Furry, help her as Chuck Norris. He lifts the huge tank and the cat slides down his trunk. On YouTube, someone commented that “Chuck Norris didn’t lift the tank, he pushed the Earth down.” I like it.

In terms of filming, we shot the video in Dallas, Texas for two days. On the first day, a voiceover was recorded for Commander Chuck. This is the tank commander, whose image was taken from me, it is a reward. There was also a photoshoot. The second day was dedicated to the video itself.

It was a great pleasure for me to participate in the filming, despite all the precautions we had to take due to COVID. I hope you enjoy the video. Also, be sure to wear masks and sanitize your hands. I wish you.

In addition to the video, the World game itself of Tanks added the virtual Chuck Norris, who will become the commander of the tank and you voiced it. Is this the first time you’ve voiced a character in a game? Did your military experience help you with this?

“We recorded about 260 phrases for Commander Chuck. These are partly standard lines about shots and bounces, and partly custom phrases that the guys at Wargaming have created especially for my character. One of my favorites: “Even poisonous snakes die when they bite me. The enemy has no chance.” If you have Commander Chuck in your tank, you will hear him when the battle begins.

This was the first time I voiced a video game character. And, yes, once again my experience of serving in the military was helpful – I quickly found the correct intonation for the lines.

He served in the US Air Force, is now returning to the military role, albeit virtual. Have you ever wanted to become an oilman? And what kind of tanks in the game do you like?

– I didn’t seriously think about becoming a tanker, but I must say that these machines are awesome. I served in the Air Force from 1958 to 1962 and saw the M48 Patton many times. It was the main vehicle at the time. And when you see this tank in real life, you understand: it is a very durable steel beast. And this makes you think every time of becoming a tanker and riding it. Well, now we have Commander Chuck, and this is kind of a dream come true.

As an American patriot, I prefer American military equipment. It was also interesting to look at the famous Soviet vehicles from WWII – the KV, IS and T-34-85, which played a key role. Since all the cars look real, inspecting them in the game’s hangar is like visiting a military museum.

Many people say that computer gamesentertainment for young people. You are 80 years old and you are the ambassador of the New Years game event in World of Tanks. In your opinion, video gamesFor whom?

– Well, I was surprised when the guys at Wargaming told me that the average World of Tanks player in America is over 50 years old. And this is, in general, the answer to the question: mature men can play and enjoy massively. I think video games are so common now that there is a game for everyone. Youngsters may be interested in faster and more effective games. Older folks are drawn to the medium pacing, realism, and more tactical approach. On the other hand, I was told that in Ukraine the average age of an “oilman” is over 30 years old, so think about it for yourself. I guess there are many factors here. Be that as it may, many of us in childhood played toy soldiers and then got carried away by war games.

My youngest son Dakota is 19 and he and his friends meet in our living room and play video games. They love World of Tanks! It’s great to see them have so much fun.

In the modern world, analog heroes have been replaced by digital ones. Previously, the heroes demonstrated their skills and physical strength, now everything is replaced by computer graphics and special effects. what do you think about it? What do you think the future holds for us?

– I have a whole multimedia room at home where I can relax and watch a good movie, for example action movies with a good story. In modern cinema, the level of special effects and CGI (computer generated images or “computer generated images”) is simply outstanding. Especially if you compare it with my childhood and even with the times when I starred in action movies and the television series “Walker, Texas Ranger”.

Despite current technical capabilities, I personally prefer good action movies where real people play.

Five superheroes of the past: Chuck Norris, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Dolph Lundgren. How close and friendly is everyone?

– I know well and have been friends with Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Van Damme and Lundgren for more than 40 years. They are all great guys that I respect a lot. And each of them did a great job choosing the right scripts and staying true to their characters as action heroes. This is partly the secret of my success in film and television.

I hope to see more young people who share this philosophy, where the good win and where the good triumphs over the evil. All boys and girls need a matching screen character. And I tried to fit this image and play this role model in my movies and TV shows.

You and your second wife have been happily married for over 20 years. What scoreyou have met the love of your life. What do you think, if a person has not complied with that, is it worth searching all his life, changing his wife, or is there any limit to the search?

– Jena and I met in 1997 at a sushi restaurant in Dallas. We were introduced by my best friend. At the time, I was filming Walker, The Texas Ranger and I was at the peak of my career. Having everything, I still felt a void inside of me and felt like something was missing. It took me almost 60 years to find that one.

We have been together for almost 24 years and we recently celebrated our 22nd wedding anniversary. We both have 7 wonderful children: my three are Mike, Eric and Dina, their two are Kelly and Tim, and our 19 year old twins are Dakota and Daniel. And we also have 13 wonderful grandchildren between the ages of 7 and 29.

I would say that you have to wait until God brings that same person into your life. You will simply know that he or she is the one, the only one for you. Jena and I are not only best friends; At the center of our union is God and the knowledge that communication, commitment, and unconditional love are the keys to a good marriage.

How rich are you? How much money do you need to be happy?

Money is not what makes a person happy, although it is necessary for life and gives comfort and tranquility. They can, but should not be, what we live for and what we think makes us truly happy.

Some of the richest people I know are also the most miserable. Therefore, it is important to remember that all the money in the world cannot cheer up insufficiency in itself.

In addition to our family, Jena and I take great pleasure in helping others. Our goal in life is to help children through the KickStart Kids Foundation. Teach high school kids character through karate. Our program now has more than 10,000 children and has graduated 105,000 students over the past 30 years. Many return to educate new children, most go to college to pursue their own success.
