Russia will not be able to compete in international sports for two years. In particular, athletes from the Russian Federation will not be allowed to participate under their flag in the Summer and Winter Olympic Games in Tokyo and Beijing in 2021 and 2022, as well as in the FIFA World Cup in Qatar in 2022. The corresponding decision was taken by the Court of Arbitration for Sport of Lausanne (CAS).

The decision was made due to the fact that the Russian Anti-Doping Agency (RUSADA) does not comply with the World Anti-Doping Code.
CAS decided that during the two-year period, athletes and other team members of the Russian Federation will not be allowed to participate in the Olympic and Paralympic Games, as well as in any other world championships under the flag of Russia.
They are said to have the right to compete in international competitions as “neutral athletes”. The Russian anthem will also not be performed at any of the competition venues.
Furthermore, Russia will not be able to host international tournaments. The CAS decision affects the World Championships, the Olympic and Paralympic Games, but the ban does not apply to European level competitions.
Also in the court’s decision, it is noted that Russian officials will not be able to hold leadership positions in international sports federations, and $ 1.27 million will be collected from Russia as compensation for the costs of the litigation.
