What is known about Sergei Shkarlet
Shkarlet – Doctor of Economics, Professor, Honorary Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine. Since May 2010, he served as rector of the Chernihiv National Technological University.
He is criticized for supporting the Party of Regions and having links with former Education Minister Dmitry Tabachnik in the Mykola Azarov government. In 2013, Tabachnyk presented Shkarlet with the badge and certificate of Honorary Worker of Science and Technology of Ukraine.
Shkarlet is also accused of plagiarism in his scientific works. On September 11, the Ethics Committee of the National Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education confirmed plagiarism in three works by acting Minister of Education.
Shkarlet explained that scientific articles found to be plagiarized were written in collaboration with other scientists or only under their editing.
Shkarlet is also blamed for the failure of the start of the school year amid the coronavirus pandemic. On September 1, a protest rally was held under the Cabinet of Ministers building demanding his resignation.
