According to Russian President Vladimir Putin, Russia’s support for the occupied Donbass territories will be carried out not only through the humanitarian line, but also through direct cooperation.

Russia will increase its support for the territories of the Donetsk and Luhansk regions that are temporarily not controlled by Ukraine. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this on December 17 at the annual press conference: which is broadcast on YouTube by the NTV channel.

“In my opinion, the agreement [конфликта на Донбассе] inevitably sooner or later it will happen. The question is: when? This largely depends on the Ukrainian authorities today. Russia supported Donbass and will continue to support it. We will even increase our support for Donbass, “he said.

Putin added that increased support will affect the productive sector, infrastructure and social problems.

“We understand without a doubt the complexity of the situation that has developed in Donbass and, I repeat, we will continue to do so not only on the humanitarian line, but also through direct cooperation,” said the Russian president.

In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, Russia launched an armed aggression in eastern Ukraine. The fighting is between the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the one hand, and the Russian army and the Russian-backed militants who control parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other. The Russian Federation does not officially recognize its invasion of Ukraine, despite the facts and evidence presented by Ukraine.

On July 22, 2020, the trilateral contact group agreed to a full and complete ceasefire in Donbas starting at midnight on July 27. Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy noted that the Joint Forces in Donbas would respond to enemy bombardments even after the ceasefire took effect.

The Ukrainian side regularly reports on cases of violation of the ceasefire by militants.

According to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Ruslan Khomchak, since the beginning of the ceasefire in Donbas, four Ukrainian soldiers have been killed, another 14 have been injured; At the same time, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are 99% fulfilling the task of not opening fire in response to provocations by militants.
