A health worker from the US state of Alaska developed a severe allergic reaction after being vaccinated on December 16 with the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer (USA) and its German partner BioNTech.
Reported by The New York Times.
According to the newspaper, the middle-aged woman had not had allergies before. But 10 minutes after the drug was administered at Bartlett Regional Hospital in Juneau, an anaphylactic reaction began. Reactions included flushing and shortness of breath. A representative from the hospital told reporters about this.
The reaction subsided shortly after the worker was administered adrenaline.
“She is healthy and well,” said a hospital employee, adding that while the woman is hospitalized, she will be discharged on Wednesday.
Pfizer spokeswoman Jerica Pitts said the company does not yet have full details of the incident, but is working with local health authorities.
The vaccine comes with an informative warning that treatment must be available in the event of an allergic reaction, he said.
“We will closely monitor all messages that indicate serious allergic reactions after vaccination and, if necessary, update the text on the labels,” said Pitts.
Last week, similar allergic reactions were reported in two UK patients who received the Pfizer vaccine. In this sense, the country’s medical authorities recommended that people prone to allergies refrain from getting vaccinated against the coronavirus with this company’s drug.
Earlier, “Strana” wrote that six people died during the Pfizer vaccine trial.
