On December 14, CD Projekt publicly apologized for the failed release of Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One, promising fixes and a refund. However, getting the promised performance in practice turned out to be very problematic.

According to Western posts such as Kotaku, IGN, and The Gamer, as well as player posts on forums and social media, it is not uncommon for PSN and Xbox support to reject refund requests for Cyberpunk 2077.

Based on the number of complaints, PlayStation consoles have a higher bounce rate than Xbox.

As VGC noted, last year Sony passed an updated policy, allowing returns within 14 days of the purchase date, as long as the game or DLC was not downloaded or installed. You can refund money for a game that was previously downloaded and released only if it is found to be “poor quality”. At the same time, Xbox has a more lenient refund policy: Microsoft analyzes each claim and makes a decision based on a variety of factors.

On December 14, amid scandals and accusations of deliberately hiding information about the technical status of the game on the outgoing generation consoles, CD Projekt held an emergency meeting with investors. In short, the developers are confident that they did the right thing by releasing the game on December 10, and they hope to restore the confidence of fans in the future by fixing all bugs and glitches. As a reminder, the second update will be released next week, and two more patches are in the works, which will be released in January and February 2021. As explained by CD Projekt, the PS4 and Xbox One versions were being finalized until the very last moment, so they were released to the press later than the PC version, which was a priority. There are no plans to lower the price for the outgoing generation, and the developers are betting on a free update for the next generation consoles, counting on a small percentage of returns.

Previously, CD Projekt reported that Cyberpunk 2077 had 8 million pre-orders and that pre-order revenue had already exceeded development and marketing costs. Analysts expect total sales of Cyberpunk 2077 in the first year to reach 30 million copies.
