Katerina Soyak, executive director of the National Group of Infection Control Experts, believes it is too early to link the latest statistics to the weekend quarantine. However, some of his colleagues say the tightening of the quarantine over the weekend has helped.
This is stated in the RBC-Ukraine material “Number Theory. What’s wrong with the Ministry of Health statistics on COVID-19”.
Breaking the chain of transmission of the disease reduces the number of people infected, he said, but cities have not adhered to the quarantine.
At the same time, the president of the Association of Anesthesiologists of Ukraine, Serhiy Dubrov, who is part of the working group of the Ministry of Health on the development of a protocol for the treatment of patients with coronavirus, believes that the weekend quarantine is still effective.
“It is important that we do not have an increase in the number of new cases compared to previous weeks. The second is an increase in the number of recovered, which is turning into more than new patients,” he said.
Infectious disease doctor, professor at NaUKMA School of Public Health Vladimir Kurpita admitted that several factors could be reflected in the latest figures in patient statistics: quarantine and seasonality, because in December respiratory diseases are weakening slightly, and the economic component.
“In our opinion, one of the reasons for the improvement in COVID-19 statistics may be that the number of PCR tests has started to decline since mid-November,” said Pavel Kovtonyuk, director of the Center for Health Economics. from the Kiev School of Economics, former deputy head of the Ministry of Health, to RBC-Ukraine.
We recall, the Cabinet has published a decree on the extension of the quarantine with strengthening in January.
Note that the Cabinet of Ministers does not exclude an increase in quarantine before January 8, if the incidence of the coronavirus in Ukraine begins to grow sharply.
