The United States has imposed sanctions on Turkey. In particular, four Turkish officials and the administration of the country’s defense industry fell under the restrictions.

The sanctions were imposed against Turkey’s defense industry secretariat and its boss Ismail Demir.

“Today’s action is a clear signal that the United States is fully compliant with Section 231 of CAATSA and will not tolerate major agreements with the Russian intelligence and defense sector,” US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in a statement.
At the same time, Pompeo urged Turkey to immediately solve the S-400 problem in coordination with the United States.
“Turkey is a valued ally and an important partner of the United States in the area of regional security, and we strive to continue our long history of productive defense,” he added.
Recall that in early October, US senators called for sanctions against Turkey in connection with planned tests of Russian S-400 air defense systems.
It was previously reported that Turkey, which is a member of NATO, purchased S-400 air defense systems from Russia in 2018. The US State Department said Turkey cannot purchase weapons incompatible with NATO weapons.
Later, information emerged that Turkey was going to transfer the S-400 anti-aircraft missile systems, which it purchased from Russia, to the United States for study to control possible damage from the purchase of weapons from Russia.
In June, members of the United States Congress introduced a bipartisan bill that proposed imposing sanctions against Turkey for acquiring Russian S-400 air defense systems, contrary to NATO principles and calls from the allies.
