On the island of Sicily, there was a spectacular eruption of Mount Etna, which became more active in July 2020. The volcano spewed gigantic fountains of lava.
Reports from the Euronews news agency.
The eruption of lava from the volcano’s crater could be observed from Catania. A dense column of ash rose to a height of about 5 km.
“Authorities informed local residents in advance that this eruption is not dangerous for nearby cities. On Monday, the local airport was operating as usual,” the report said.
Note that Etna is one of the highest active volcanoes (3329 meters) in Europe. Etna has 200 to 400 lateral craters. Several times a year, lava and ash erupt from various craters. The last major volcanic eruption was in 1992.
Earlier, “Strana” reported that the Levotolo volcano began to erupt in Indonesia. A column of ash and smoke rose from the vent to a height of about four kilometers.
We also recall that a volcano woke up in the Kuriles and spewed a 3.5 km high column of ash. The plume spread to the southeast for a distance of up to 3 km.
