Two thousand employees of the iPhone plant, which is part of the Taiwanese giant Wistron Corporation, on 12 December in the Indian city of Narsapur (Karnataka state) staged a massacre for dissatisfaction of wages. This was reported by The Times of India.

People destroyed the building’s facade, executive offices, production facilities, and set several cars on fire.

Wistron has yet to comment on the pogroms. According to the Indian newspaper, the cause of the riots was the violation of the wage agreement. The employees were unhappy because they were being paid less than what they had promised.

A worker at the plant said the engineering graduate was promised 21,000 rupees (about $ 285), but paid 16,000 ($ 216) and then the salary was reduced to 12,000 rupees ($ 162). It is noted that on the eve of the riots, people discussed wages and the company sent about 500 rupees ($ 6.7) each.

“The amount of wages credited to our accounts was decreasing and it was unpleasant to see that,” the employee shared.

Additionally, the publication notes that Wistron received a plot of land in Karnataka and promised to employ 10,000 people.
