«The Armenian side carried out provocative actions in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, accompanied by a violation of the ceasefire. The Armed Forces of Azerbaijan took appropriate measures, ”says the website of the Ministry of Defense of Azerbaijan.

According to the Ministry of Defense, the ceasefire is currently being respected.

At the same time, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, noting the relative stabilization of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, expressed concern about the terrorist attacks allegedly carried out by the Armenian army.

«Now the Russian peacekeepers are carrying out their activities. The situation is relatively stable. But despite this, I was informed that yesterday the remnants of the Armenian army carried out a series of terrorist acts. This, of course, causes concern, ”Aliyev said on Saturday in Baku, upon receiving the co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group from France and the United States, reports Azeri Interfax.

Aliyev warned the Armenian side against attempts to start new military operations.

«I already said two days ago in a military parade that if Armenian fascism raises its head again, we will break it with an iron fist. Therefore, they must be careful, they must not plan any military action. Otherwise, this time we will destroy them completely. However, I hope the situation does not come to this, ”he said.

On December 12, the Armenian Defense Ministry announced that the Azerbaijani side resumed offensive actions in the direction of the Old Taglar – Khtsaberd villages in Nagorno-Karabakh.

The Russian Defense Ministry, whose peacekeepers are in Karabakh, reported that a day earlier, on December 11, there was a violation of the ceasefire in Nagorno Karabakh. The situation on December 12 was not reported.

On November 10, Armenia signed an agreement with Azerbaijan and Russia to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh. This sparked massive protests in Yerevan: Protesters seized the country’s government and parliament building.

As part of the peace agreement, Armenia agreed to transfer three regions under the control of Azerbaijan: Agdam, Kelbajar and Lachin, as well as part of the Gazakh region. The so-called Lachin corridor, the highway connecting the center of Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia, and the line of contact of the parties, by agreement, must be controlled by the peacekeeping forces – the Russian and Turkish military.

Soon, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan declared that the decision to end the war in Nagorno-Karabakh was taken under pressure from the Armenian army and called the situation «a great failure and a great disaster. ”At the same time, he indicated that he was not going to resign.

Large-scale hostilities between Armenian and Azerbaijani troops on the line of contact in Nagorno-Karabakh resumed on the night of September 27, 2020.

Both countries blamed each other for the escalation of the conflict and reported combat casualties and civilian and military casualties.

The conflict between Azerbaijan and Armenia continues over Nagorno-Karabakh. In 1988, the Nagorno-Karabakh Autonomous Region, inhabited mainly by Armenians, announced its withdrawal from the Azerbaijan Soviet Socialist Republic.

In 1994, mediated by Moscow, a ceasefire agreement was signed that ended active hostilities in the region, but left Karabakh and the surrounding regions of Azerbaijan under Armenian control.

More than 30,000 people have died in the six years of war.

The peace accord came to a standstill after talks between the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan in 2009.
