British heavyweight world champion Anthony Joshua (24-1, 22 KOs) won the match against the Bulgarian challenger Kubrata puleva (28-2, 14 KOs) and defended his WBA, WBO and IBF titles.

Joshua – Pulev: How it was

Both boxers spent the first two rounds scouting. No one was in a hurry to climb the opponent, but the world champion was more active. He attacked with blows to the head and torso of the opponent. The Bulgarian tried to reciprocate, but due to the short length of his arms he was unable to do so.

Already in the third three minutes, Joshua caught Kubrat on a counterattack and forced him back, notably shaking his opponent. Anthony went to shoot, and the referee was forced to count down from a footfall. Pulev got up, but only to be back on the ring mat in a moment. He was only saved by the gong.

After a break, the Bulgarian regained consciousness. He failed to attack, but he did well to hold the blows, be active on his feet, and move forward. The Brit began to visibly target the opponent and work at a slow pace.

The eighth round is the only one where Kubrat can be given a stretch. Once he managed to get his forehand to the target, but not hard and in pursuit.

The ninth round was no different from the others until the middle. Joshua made four melee attacks, all of which hit their mark. Pulev clearly felt uncomfortable and started to walk away, which he hadn’t done before. Anthony ran to the finishing move and with an uppercut made the opponent sniff the ground. He got to his feet, but only to be in a deep knockout. The British right ended the fight, the referee gave the go-ahead.
