Ukraine has received official approval from the COVAX Foundation for a request to supply a coronavirus vaccine. Therefore, Ukraine is guaranteed to receive eight million doses for free.

This was announced by the Chief Medical Officer Viktor Lyashko on Facebook on Saturday, December 12, publishing the corresponding resolution of the fund.

«Now, in addition to the planned purchases of the vaccine for budget funds, Ukraine will already receive 100% more than 8 million doses of the vaccine for free. Also syringes for injections, ”wrote Lyashko.

According to the health doctor, now they continue to work so that the refrigeration equipment of the vaccination points arrives as soon as possible.

Lyashko added that the Ministry of Health will involve a state company in the logistics process Ukrvakcina and private companies (to give access to equipment for ultra-cold storage, with a temperature regime of -60 / -80 ° C).

When will the coronavirus vaccine appear in Ukraine?

The head of the Ministry of Health, Maxim Stepanov, after signing technical documents with COVAX, said that the vaccine would tentatively arrive in Ukraine in spring 2021.

Stepanov said that by purchasing a vaccine, the state will immediately provide free vaccination to people in risk groups.

It is not yet known whose vaccine will be delivered to Ukraine; negotiations are under way with all companies. However, the Ministry of Health assured that Ukraine would not buy the Russian vaccine against COVID-19.

According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the priority in immunization against coronavirus in Ukraine will mainly focus on:

  • Health workers,
  • military,
  • teachers
  • people from risk groups, particularly people over 60 years of age.

People who have already had COVID-19 will also need to get vaccinated.
