Texas has shown no legitimate interest in how other states conduct their elections, the court said.
The United States Supreme Court dismissed Texas Attorney Ken Paxton’s claim to invalidate the results of the presidential elections in several states.
Earlier, a group of 17 US states told the Supreme Court that they support a lawsuit brought by Texas, aimed at delaying the appointment of voters, who are scheduled to determine the country’s next president on Monday.
As reported, the purpose of the lawsuit, which was supported by President Donald Trump and a majority of Republicans, is to postpone the appointment of electors from the states of Georgia, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin to a later date. The lawsuit alleges that these states violated the constitution when they changed the rules for holding presidential elections. Additionally, the lawsuit states that new rules passed by the four states de facto made widespread voting irregularities possible.
The court ruling emphasized that “Texas has not shown a legally justified interest in the way other states conduct their elections.”
The White House said that by its decision the Supreme Court refused to enforce the norms of the country’s constitution.
“The Supreme Court has really failed us. No wisdom, no courage!” – commented on the Trump court decision in Twitter.
Earlier, United States Attorney General William Barr said there were no instances of fraud on a scale that could lead to a change in the outcome of the election.
