After a wave of criticism, the country’s main Christmas tree, which stands on Sophia Square in Kiev, will be removed from the hat placed in the top of an artificial tree. Instead, an octahedral star will be placed on Saint Nicholas day on December 19.
This is stated on the Facebook page of the organizers of the New Year celebrations in the capital, “Popular Ukraine”.
“Friends, don’t worry, on the eve of Saint Nicholas the star will replace the magic hat on the main tree!” – says the message.
The organization’s president, Igor Dobrutsky, explained this decision in a comment to the Segodnya newspaper.
“We have already explained several times to all the opponents that the theme of this new year is a fairy forest. But apparently people do not understand this, or do not want to understand it. Therefore, I will be brief: the night before the party. from St. Nicholas, we will take off the fairy hat from the Christmas tree and replace it with an octahedral star, “he said.
At the same time, Dobrutsky did not specify whether a hat would be hung on the top of the tree after St. Nicholas Day.
