The United States Senate has endorsed the Fiscal Defense Budget Bill 2021. The bill includes military assistance to Ukraine and extended sanctions against the Nord Stream 2 project.

Reported by Reuters.

The defense budget for 2021 has the support of 75 members of the Senate.

Previously, the House of Representatives of the United States Congress approved the provision of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of 250 million dollars as part of the United States military budget for fiscal year 2021.

Military assistance to Ukraine is provided as part of the Security Assistance Initiative, which will go towards supporting and assisting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

In addition, the bill includes provisions for more severe penalties against the Russian Nord Stream 2 and Turkish Stream pipeline projects.

We will recall, the United States Charge d’Affaires to Ukraine Christina Queen said that the United States has confirmed its support for Ukraine under the defense assistance package. However, he noted that Ukraine needs to continue reforms in the defense sector.

Furthermore, the United States may impose new sanctions against Nord Stream 2. According to The Wall Street Journal, Ukrainian lobbies are pushing for this.
