Will they get up off their knees? In 24 group stage matches, Russian teams have only managed a four-game win

The group stage of the Champions League and Europa League is over. According to the results of this part of the season, Russia turned out to be one of the worst countries in the context of European competition. Four representatives of the RPL obtained a total victory in 24 parties.

Krasnodar saved Russia from total failure, which suffered a 1-0 home win over Rennes. This team also drew twice in the Champions League group (five points). “Krasnodar” in the spring will play in the LE playoffs, being the only representative of the RPL in European competition.

“Lokomotiv” in the Champions League group scored three points thanks to three draws – the last place.

Zenit scored a point in the Champions League, the last place.

CSKA Moscow scored three points in group LE thanks to three draws, the last place.

It should be noted that two of the RPL representatives mentioned above were in the first basket during the group draw (Zenit and CSKA M). In total, Russia was represented by six teams this season (thanks to sixth position in the UEFA odds table), but “Rostov” and “Dynamo” (Moscow) were eliminated in the first qualifying round of the Europa League against “Maccabi” (Haifa, Israel) and “Lokomotivi” (Tbilisi, Georgia), respectively. In qualifying, again, only Krasnodar won, twice over PAOK.

Overall, in 28 Euroseason matches, Russia won three victories (all – “Krasnodar”). This is equal to the coefficient of 4,333 – so far the lowest figure for this country in the last eighteen years (however, the coefficient may still increase – “Krasnodar” in the game). Russia scored 4,666 last year and will be represented in the European competition by five teams from next season. Only the champion will go directly to the Champions League. In the coefficient table Russia fell to seventh position. A close fight is expected next season with the Netherlands, Scotland, Austria and Ukraine for places from seventh to eleventh inclusive. The five associations in this group are within the three points.

Finally, we note that the teams from Ukraine and Russia cannot overlap in European competitions. UEFA artificially divorces representatives of the UPL and RPL in the draw due to hostility between the countries caused by the Russian invasion, occupation and the outbreak of war by Russia on the territory of Ukraine.
