The head of the Chornomorsk seaport demanded money for the approval of a reorganization plan for a bankrupt private company, in the creditors’ committee of which the state company had the majority of votes, reported the National Anti-Corruption Office.
On December 10, on suspicion of having received a bribe of $ 250,000, the head of the Chornomorsk seaport was arrested. This was reported by the press service of the National Anticorruption Office.
“The investigation found that the head of a state company demanded money to agree on a reorganization plan for a bankrupt private company, in the creditors’ committee in which the SOE had the majority of votes,” the statement said.
According to law enforcement officials, the company was negotiating with private investors, but their involvement required approval from the creditors’ committee.
Therefore, the owner of the port, sensing the seriousness of the intentions of one of the investors, demanded $ 250,000 as payment for “loyalty,” he said in NABU.
According to the investigation, the official acted with the mediation of a representative of another creditor of a private company, who received a bribe for his later transfer to an official of the port of Chornomorsk.
The official and the mediator were arrested, the issue of announcing suspicions and choosing a preventive measure is being decided.
