Hackers Are Interested In Vaccine Development By Pharmaceutical Companies

The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has suffered a cyberattack by unknown attackers. They accessed some documents about the COVID-19 coronavirus vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech. This was announced yesterday by BioNTech on its website.
“Today the European Medicines Agency (EMA) informed us that the agency was under cyber attack and that some documents related to the regulatory filing of the candidate BNT162b2 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech against COVID-19 were obtained illegally,” he said. …
The company does not yet know if the data of the research participants reached the hackers. However, none of the BioNTech or Pfizer systems were compromised.
“We are currently awaiting further information on the EMA investigation and will respond accordingly and in accordance with EU law,” BioNTech added.
Recall that in recent months, Microsoft has recorded several hacker attacks by groups related to the state of Russia and the DPRK against pharmaceutical companies and developers of vaccines against the coronavirus. The attackers’ objective was to hack into the personal accounts of the employees of these companies.
Hackers, allegedly from the DPRK, were also reported to have carried out a cyber attack against the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca, which is developing a coronavirus vaccine together with the University of Oxford.
