Football.ua examines the fight between the Kiev Dynamo and the Hungarian Ferencváros.

Mircea Lucescu’s charges defeated Sergei Rebrov’s team 1: 0 with a slight advantage. This result allowed the Dynamo to take third place in the group, allowing the team to play in the spring part of the Europa League.

The Dynamo – Ferencvaros match is definitely not the match you want to watch over and over again. This is not a duel for which the fans of the Kiev club will go to YouTube more than once to enjoy the moment of triumph again. This match will not take its place of honor on the “best win rack for your favorite team.”

Dynamo – Ferencvaros. Our estimates

Absolutely all the specialists after this match echoed each other – the main thing in this match was the result that the team managed to achieve. And here you cannot argue. The experienced Mircea Lucescu opted for a defensive version of the game, betting on counterattacks and standard positions. And if it did not work with the counterattacks, then it was the standard that brought the desired result.

From the first minutes of the match, Dynamo decided to confuse Ferencvaros and create problems for the Hungarians who were already in the preparation stage. Garmash got on a line to Verbic and we saw 4-4-2 performed by Dynamo. But the Hungarians were prepared for such a turn of events. Kharatin immediately began to descend to the central defenders line to help overcome the transition from defense to attack without a hitch.

The Dynamo’s best attack was played in the 7th minute of the first half. Viktor Tsygankov led the full back down the wing, thus increasing the distance between the left back and the left center back. Denis Garmash broke into this area and received a transmission from Tomas Kendzera.

Goalkeeper Ferencvaros removed the undercarriage from Verbic’s head.

Dynamo with great forces retreated to his half of the field and took a waiting position when Ferencvaros began to attack with great forces. But the Hungarians were in no hurry to attack in large numbers. And then we saw an image like that, when some did not try to attack and the latter were afraid to attack. In such a game, you could count on a goal only in case of someone’s mistakes. And this happened in the 25th minute of the game. Kendzera “pushed” the transmission to Sidorchuk, who was stolen by Leduni. Zabarny went to secure his captain and left Nguyen absolutely free behind him.

If it was not Ferencvaros, but a team of a higher level, then Dynamo would have already lost with a score of 0: 1. It was for such oversights that the Dynamo were sanctioned by Juventus and Barcelona. And Nguyen did not comply and fired outside the door.

Ferencváros is among the worst teams in the entire Champions League in the effectiveness of martial arts. Playing on the second floor is clearly not the strong point of Sergei Rebrov’s team. As it was not of quality, Sergei Stanislavovich’s coaching staff decided by trick. So we saw interesting options to play in the corners, where Ferencváros players tried to confuse their rival.

At the time of the transfer, the player closest to the goal tried to block the movement of the Dynamo players, and the three Ferencváros players fell apart. Two players headed for the first post and one for the second.

On the broadcast, it was perfectly audible how Denis Popov asked his partners to act carefully on the players. Such intricate rallies by the Hungarians did not bring any dividends, which cannot be said about the Dynamo, but we will come back to this point a bit later.

In the second half, some of the Dynamo’s attacking flashes faded and the game returned to its usual course. Ferencváros carefully combined, trying to create his own moments. And there really were moments, but the skill of the Ferencváros players left much to be desired.

In the 52nd minute of the match, Nguyen clearly saw the connection from the depths of Zubkov and made an accurate pass to the Ukrainian legionnaire, Oleksandr unsuccessfully hitting his right foot.

But already in the 55th minute, Zubkov and Nguyen swapped roles. This time, Alexander acted as an assistant and made an excellent moving pass to his teammate, and Nguyen fired straight into Buschan’s hands.

The Kiev players created their first really dangerous moment in the 60th minute. De Pena made a good pass from the free kick, Kendzer cut his head off at the near post and Popov closed the distance. The Dynamo had no prerequisites to score, but it was they who managed to score. Denis Popov at the time of the strike was between Dvali and Kharatin. It is these two who should share the blame for the ball.

After that, it became clear that Ferencvaros had practically no chance. The guests lost heart after such an unpleasant incident. They continued to attack out of inertia, but that severity no longer existed. After the match, Denis Garmash told the press that the Dynamo fully complied with the defensive game plan and understood that if his team managed to score, the Hungarians would have no chance of winning this match. When this goal happened, the impression was that all the other players on the football field understood what Garmash understood, that is, that the Dynamo would prevail in this match.

There was still a good moment for Lednev after coming in as a substitute, when Bogdan fired at the goal from a lethal position. Had he scored this goal, we would have seen an exact replay of the Champions League qualifying match against AZ, when the Dynamo held out for a time and a half, then scored twice and won that game.

After the fight, Sergei Rebrov praised his team and said that he had nothing to scold and criticize his players for, because they followed the instructions of the game and were closer to victory. You can agree with Sergei Stanislavovich. In fact, his team looked better offensively, but it can’t be said that they have had many amazing scoring chances. There were some potentially jerky approaches to goal, but the actions of the attacking players in the final stage caused all the team’s efforts to come to nothing.

Dynamo chose this way of playing and achieved a result. What more could you ask of Mircea Lucescu and the people of Kiev? Yes, the game was inexpressive and uninteresting for the fans. On this day of play in the Champions League in Kiev, the fewest shots were made on goal, and also on goal. Only 5 shots on goal for 2 teams. The teams also showed the lowest xG that day. Dynamo – 0.46, Ferencvaros – 0.66. For both teams: 1.12.

For example, second from the end in xG on this game day was Chelsea’s match against Krasnodar – 2.61.

The winter transfer window will be largely decisive for the current Kiev Dynamo. Igor Mikhailovich made a lot of money from the Dynamo’s performances in the Champions League and he should please his coach with new high-quality players.

At the press conference, Mircea Lucescu, when asked about strengthening the team, nervously replied that this question is not for him, he works with those he has. And if in the current situation with limited staffing potential there can be no doubts for Lucescu regarding the quality of the game, then after the winter break, if the proper strengthening of the squad does not follow, another question may arise, is it necessary for Lucescu himself?
