Authorities in China and Nepal have jointly measured the height of the world’s highest peak. Previously, the representatives of the two countries disagreed on whether the height of the Everest snow cap should be taken into account in this regard.

The highest mountain in the world, Everest, was 86 centimeters taller than previously thought. This was announced today by the authorities of China and Nepal, in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Nepal.

Until now, the researchers did not agree on the height of the mountain, there was disagreement between them on the need to include a snow cap at the height of the mountain, the Air Force noted.

According to updated data, the height of Everest is 8,848 meters and 86 centimeters.

Everest is located on the border between China and Nepal, climbers climb it from both sides.

China previously estimated the height of the mountain at 8844.43 meters, Nepal did not take its measurements.

Some geologists speculate that an earthquake in 2015 could have affected the height of Everest. An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 killed about 9,000 people in Nepal. According to scientists, the height of the snow cover has decreased since then.
