Nightingale, 60, is a historian by training. He worked for 11 years at MGIMO, where he headed the Advertising and Public Relations Department. In 2019, Nightingale announced his resignation, because the university “for political reasons” does not want to do anything with him.
As noted by the BBC Russian Service, Nightingale often appears as a commentator in independent and opposition Russian media. Some of his predictions turned out to be accurate: in 2016 he predicted the appointment of Anton Vaino as head of the presidential administration of the Russian Federation, and Vyacheslav Volodin as head of the State Duma.
