Resolution on Crimea: reinforced document endorsed by the UN General Assembly

The UN General Assembly at its meeting today endorsed the draft of an enhanced Ukraine resolution on the Russian militarization of occupied Crimea. The document had the support of more than 60 participating countries.

The UNGA meeting was broadcast on the organization’s official website.

Ukraine’s draft resolution was supported by 63 countries, 17 opposed and another 62 states abstained.

Russia and its allies, Armenia, Belarus, Serbia, Syria and Venezuela, voted against the Ukraine resolution. Zimbabwe, Cambodia, China, Cuba, DPRK, Kyrgyzstan, Laos, Myanmar, Nicaragua and Iran also voted against the document.

Among the countries that supported the resolution on Crimea: Germany, Georgia, Hungary, Poland, France, Croatia, Israel, Italy, the United States, Turkey, Great Britain, Estonia, Switzerland and Cyprus.

We will recall that before that, the UN General Assembly passed a resolution on human rights in occupied Crimea. The document calls for pressure on Russia to force it to comply with its international obligations.

RBC-Ukraine also wrote that NATO has agreed to strengthen its military presence in the Black Sea due to the Russian militarization of Crimea.
