Reducing the incidence of coronavirus in Ukraine means nothing – Ruban

In Ukraine, the decline in the daily increase in new coronavirus cases in the last week does not reflect the true picture of the incidence. The number of hospitalizations is growing, so the words of officials about the supposed improvement in statistics cannot be taken as a fact that the pandemic has subsided.

This opinion was expressed by the epidemiologist, the country’s honorary doctor and head of the Kiev State Food and Consumer Service, Oleg Ruban. On the air of channel Ukraine 24, he commented on the data on COVID-19 infections in the country and said when it is better to introduce a blockade.

“This is a subjective reason for the decrease in tests, on Saturday and Sunday there is always a decrease in the number of registered cases. As for the objective indicator, it is about hospitalizations of patients with severe and moderate forms, their number is invariably high, and there is a tendency to increase, not decrease. The situation is difficult throughout the country and the imposition of restrictive measures is necessary“, – said Ruban.

According to him, the weekend quarantine, so “praised” by the Ministry of Health and the government, could be an effective measure. But not with such a rapid increase in incidence. Ruban compared such measures to “a fire that they are trying to put out with a spoon and not with special devices.”

The doctor claims that today it is necessary to introduce a strict quarantine throughout Ukraine. It is about confinement, but not in the version in which the authorities consider it.

“What is being discussed now this is not a blockade, but passive restrictive measures… We only had closure in the spring, in March, April and May. Today we talk about improved restrictive measures that are appropriate, timely, and will lead to decreased morbidity. ” – He explained.

The epidemiologist believes that a shutdown will be necessary in Ukraine not only in January, but also in February 2021.

“It is necessary to take into account the natural increase in the incidence and fixation of acute respiratory infections. If you look at the dynamics of the incidence, then in November there is an increase, in December there is a decrease with the abandonment of the minimum indicators at the end of December, the first or second week of January. It will be at the end of January and February. it is advisable to introduce restrictions in January and February“, – Ruban added.

Note that on the morning of December 7, 8641 COVID-19 cases were detected in Ukraine, who had not been in the country for more than a month. However, the total number of infections reached 821 947. In addition, during the last day 1,037 Ukrainians were admitted to hospitals diagnosed with coronavirus or suspect it, and 145 passed away of the consequences of the disease.

Remember that emergency shutdown (English Lockdown – Lockdown) is a prohibition to freely enter or exit a building or a specific area due to an emergency. OBOZREVATEL previously considered two scenarios: the introduction of a blockade in Ukraine from the beginning of December and at the end of the month. And the second option proved terrifying, let alone a delay until early January.

Ruban on reducing the incidence of coronavirus in Ukraine: it means nothing

As OBOZREVATEL reported, the Ukrainians criticized the authorities’ idea of postponing the introduction of a blockade in the country until January 2021. They accused it of not taking responsibility for preserving the lives and health of citizens in the fight against the pandemic. of COVID-19.
