Russian President Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. This was reported on the Kremlin’s website on Monday, December 7.
In particular, the Russian leader discussed with Merkel the coronavirus vaccine, the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh and the settlement in Donbass.
“Putin and Merkel noted with satisfaction that the ceasefire in Donbass is generally being observed,” the message reads.
At the same time, during the negotiations, concern was expressed about the lack of progress in the implementation of the political aspects of the Minsk agreements.
In addition, the parties discussed issues related to the implementation of the Nord Stream 2 project.
On December 5, the US embassy in Berlin called on Germany and the European Union (EU) to impose a moratorium on the pipeline.
Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan adopted a joint ceasefire declaration on November 9. According to the document, the belligerents remain in their positions. Furthermore, until December 1, the regions of Lachin, Gazakh and Kelbajar will be transferred to the control of Azerbaijan. Russian peacekeepers will be stationed along the line of contact of the Lachin corridor connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia.
