The reasons for the conflicts with Hungary lie in history, says Kuleba
Ukraine is trying not to conflict with Hungary as it is an important neighbor, a member of NATO and the EU.
Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba explained why Ukraine has the most conflicts with Hungary. In an interview with RBK-Ukraine, published on Monday, December 7, he mentioned three reasons for not fighting with his western neighbor.
“Firstly, this is an important neighboring country in Central Europe, and we are also part of this space … Secondly, it is a member state of NATO, and we would like to work normally with Hungary on the issue of integration. Euro-Atlantic. it is a member state of the European Union, whose position is also important to us, ”he explained.
The minister stressed that both parties must respect each other’s legislation and national interests.
“No one is determined to be at war with Hungary politically. But Hungary must respect our national legislation and national interests,” Kuleba said.
According to him, especially from its western neighbors, Ukraine has conflicts with the Hungarians, because both states are “very traumatized by their history.”
And therefore they are very sensitive to any problem when history breaks into the present, or even tries to dictate the future. And these hidden traumas cause a clash of interests. Furthermore, Hungary in general has been very ambitious in recent years, not only in relations with Ukraine, but also with several other countries, and with the European Union as a whole, “the minister added.
We will remember, between Ukraine and Hungary, that another conflict broke out over the Hungarians of Transcarpathia. For this reason, Budapest even turned to the OSCE and NATO, but both organizations decided to distance themselves from the situation, providing solutions to the parties in conflict.
