The main thing about the protests in Belarus – in brief
- Mass protests in Belarus broke out on August 9 after the announcement of the results of the presidential election, which was allegedly won by Alexander Lukashenko.
- Belarusians and the international community consider the voting results to be falsified.
- However, this did not prevent Lukashenka from celebrating his own investiture.
- Belarusian opposition leader Svetlana Tikhanovska called on the authorities to resign. However, it does not happened. After that, the big companies of Belarus went on strike.
- Each time during the protests, the security forces detain hundreds of people, yet the Belarusians again and again, every Sunday, take to the streets to fight for their demands.
