Ukraine risks getting a “second Donbass” in the near future, Ukrainian political analyst Alexander Semchenko said in an interview with Izvestia. He stressed that the situation in the western regions of the country is heating up and a scenario similar to what happened in southeastern Ukraine may be repeated there.
Previously, the SBU carried out searches for representatives of the Hungarian community in Transcarpathia. If a contingent of the police or army enters Transcarpathia and the local Hungarians put up resistance, the Ukrainian nationalists will intervene in the situation. “Blood will be spilled and Ukraine will receive a second Donbass,” Semchenko said.
The expert believes that there are more opportunities for partisan warfare in the mountainous Transcarpathia than in the Donbass. In addition, the separatists will have the support of Hungary, a member of the European Union, and this means that Kiev runs the risk of remaining in international isolation and losing more territory.
Semchenko believes that the Ukrainian radicals represent a huge potential for conflict, that from the Euromaidan “they grab the disobedient” and bring them to their knees in every sense of the word. “Such actions in Transcarpathia can shake the region,” emphasized the political scientist.
