Cannabis is already legal in several US states
Now the bill must be voted on in the Senate, in which Republicans have the majority.
For the first time in US history, the House of Representatives voted to decriminalize marijuana at the federal level and a bill was passed. This was announced on Friday, December 4, by Fox News.
After the approval of the document by the congressmen, they must vote on it in the Senate. However, since the majority of senators are Republicans, there is little chance the bill will pass.
If, however, the Senate supports decriminalization, the bill must be signed by the country’s president, after which the states will be forced to change their legislation on this issue.
Note that today at the state level, the laws of the United States do not allow the possession and use of marijuana, which is classified as a drug. At the same time, recreational use of marijuana was allowed in several states, as well as the Metropolitan District of Columbia.
As reported, the UN has removed medical cannabis from the list of dangerous drugs. This decision was voted by 53 countries that are members of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs.
