The Kingdom of Bahrain is the second country in the world to approve a COVID-19 vaccine from Pfizer and BioNTech. Informed the BNA agency.

Bahrain’s National Health Service chief Maryam al-Jalahma said the approval of the vaccine is an “important follow-up” to the government’s response to the coronavirus.

«This has been our goal since we first announced that science will triumph, and we applaud the National Public Health Service of the Kingdom of Bahrain for its careful assessment and timely action to protect the country’s population, ”said Lindsay Dietchee, Manager of the Gulf of Pfizer. …

According to Johns Hopkins University, in Bahrain, as of December 4, 87 thousand cases of coronavirus, 341 people have died.

What is known about the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech

The COVID-19 vaccine developed by the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer and the German biotechnology company BioNTech has shown an efficiency of 95%. By the end of 2020, it is planned to produce 50 million doses of this vaccine.

The European Medicines Agency, no later than December 29, 2020, will decide to authorize the use of the vaccine manufactured by Pfizer and BioNTech.

The UK is the first in the world to approve the Pfizer and BioNTech vaccine for widespread use.

According to media reports, the first shipments have already begun to enter the country.

When will the coronavirus vaccine appear in Ukraine?

According to Health Minister Maxim Stepanov, Ukraine can receive the first vaccines from the international COVAX program in the first quarter of 2021. It is not yet known which vaccine production the Ukrainian Ministry of Health will choose; negotiations are ongoing with all companies. The vaccine must meet certain requirements: WHO approval and certain countries with strict regulatory controls.

Through the Global Fund for Access to COVID-19 Vaccines (COVAX) can be expected to provide 8.34 billion doses of vaccine by the end of 2021.

Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said that after December 7 the dates of the first deliveries of the coronavirus vaccine to Ukraine will be known.

According to President Volodymyr Zelensky, the priority in vaccination with a future coronavirus vaccine in Ukraine will mainly focus on:

  • Health workers,
  • military,
  • teachers
  • people from risk groups, in particular people over 60 years of age.

People who have already had COVID-19 will also need to get vaccinated.
