Attorney General Irina Venediktova proposed passing a law that will make the removal of the Attorney General in Ukraine by the Verkhovna Rada impossible.
She announced this on December 3 on the air of the television channel 1 + 1, reports Interfax. Venediktova called it a “good idea”.
“I have a good idea … for a bill. We really should have an independent attorney general. The president must run the nomination and the parliament must support this nomination, but cannot withdraw it for political reasons. We can take it as an analogy between the head of the NABU and the head of the SAP. ” , – she said.
Venediktova explained that “when the attorney general has guarantees of professional freedoms, he can do whatever he wants.”
“I want to say that with this bill I am not going to cement myself, but the next Attorney General. I think that, in principle, that idea can be supported,” Venediktova said.
As OBOZREVATEL previously reported, NABU accused the Attorney General’s Office of interrupting the detention of Deputy Yermak. Venediktova appointed herself a procedural prosecutor in the case.
