At the FIA press conference in Sahir, Nicholas Latifi was asked what advice he would give to his new teammate, Jack Aitken, who will make his Formula 1 debut at the wheel of Williams.
Nicholas Latifi: “It sounds a bit strange, because this is my first season in Formula 1 and it is too early to give advice. Jack is a good racer, and when you have a debut weekend, you need to drive as many laps as you can in practice, trying to get as much information as possible on each of them.
It is important to provide the team with adequate feedback and try to work with everyone to the best of your ability. Luckily for Jack, for Pietro Fittipaldi, and perhaps also for George Russell, who will also have to adapt to his new surroundings, there are not many corners on this version of the track.
On the other hand, perhaps, the weekend promises to be a bit chaotic, because in the course of training we have to find out a lot, and qualifying will be especially difficult. But I think it will be very interesting!
Judging from the first impression of the new track, it does not suit our car in the best way, and this is not very good, but we still hope that we have a chance to perform well.
I expect many teams to significantly reduce the downforce on their cars, although perhaps not as much as at Monza. Straight speed is not our strongest side, but since there is a very short circle, we will have to drive most of the time in the turbulence zone of rival cars. In practice, this will complicate the normal conduct of the test program, there will be difficulties in qualifying, and it remains to be understood how in the end all this will manifest itself over the course of the race.
Since the race can be quite chaotic, I think that thanks to this we can have some opportunities and we have to be prepared for it. And if we are lucky, I do not exclude that we win some points “.
