Now, according to the law “On the civil service”, people over 65 cannot be assigned to the public service. The Verkhovna Rada on December 3 supported a bill that proposes to allow people over 65 to be appointed to public service for one year with the right to reelection without annual mandatory competition.

The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine adopted as a basis the bill No. 4096, which proposes to remove age restrictions for work in public service, the correspondent of the publication reports “GORDON”.

The bill was supported by 234 deputies, one voted against, 72 abstained and 32 did not vote.

Now, according to the law “On Public Service”, people who have reached 65 years of age cannot be appointed to public service. The bill proposes to allow the appointment of people over 65 to public service for one year with the right to reelection without mandatory competition annually.

At the same time, the extension of the mandate of a public official is allowed, according to the bill, only until he reaches the age of 70.

The promoter of the bill and director of the Social Policy Committee Verkhovna Rada of the Servant of the People faction, Galina Tretyakova, pointed out during the introduction of the law that the proportion of people over 60 is increasing worldwide and also in Ukraine, and reaches 20% or more. He gave an example that in Belgium and Switzerland the age limit for civil servants is 67 to 70 years.
