MEPs say the searches carried out by the SBU were politically motivated and aimed at intimidation and pressure.

They believe that “the coordinated raids against legitimate Hungarian minority organizations” resemble “the methods of the Stalinist totalitarian system.”

“In a country associated with the EU, which has repeatedly declared its intention to join the European Union and NATO, such events are unacceptable, so we are taking an initiative in the European Parliament to put this unprecedented violation on the agenda. of the December plenary session, “he added. in the statement.

It is also alleged that the Ukrainian authorities have violated the rights of the Hungarian minority for years. In particular, they recalled the adoption of the Education and Language Laws as an example of violation of the rights of a national minority, which “can have serious consequences.”

Earlier, Hungary’s Foreign Minister Peter Siyarto briefed NATO on searches of officials from one of the charitable foundations in Transcarpathia.
