The president of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, announced the creation of a European Union to respond to future pandemics, which will be called HERA. The union will focus on future crises and try to prevent them.

This is indicated in the text of von der Leyen’s statement published on the website of the European Commission.

The European Health Emergency Preparedness and Response Authority (HERA), according to von der Leyen, will help to respond quickly to health emergencies.

He explained that the governments of European countries cannot independently ending the coronavirus pandemic and HERA would provide an opportunity to declare a state of emergency throughout the European Union.

“This would give greater coordination between member states, joint purchases of medical equipment and the deployment of EU assistance teams,” added the head of the European Commission.

Recall that the European Union plans to start vaccinating the population against the coronavirus at the end of December 2020. The European Commission has already signed contracts for the vaccine with six companies.
