From January 2021, the service sector should switch exclusively to Ukrainian, – linguistic ombudsman

The transition is required by the law “On ensuring the functioning of the Ukrainian language as a state language”.

Language Ombudsman Taras Kremin recalled that as of January 16, 2021, the service sector should exclusively switch to the Ukrainian service language. It will be possible to serve a client in another language only at your request. On Tuesday, December 1, he wrote about this on his Facebook.

Therefore, all those who provide services, regardless of the form of ownership, are obliged to serve consumers and provide information on goods and services in Ukrainian in accordance with art. 30 of the state language law.

“In a supermarket and online store, in a cafe, a bank, a gas station, a pharmacy or a library, wherever you are, the service should be in Ukrainian,” Kremen emphasized.

We will remember, in gym n. 4 from Odessa, the teacher made a scandal in the lesson because one of the students answered her in Ukrainian.

Furthermore, the Supreme Court recognized that the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, is obliged to communicate in the language of the state while on duty.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, Dmitry Razumkov, expressed the opinion that the current law on the state language does not take into account the interests of all citizens of Ukraine.
