Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmitry Kuleba summoned Hungarian Ambassador Istvan Idyarto to talk today, December 1. The parties spoke about the situation in Transcarpathia and relations between the countries.
This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine.
Kuleba, in an interview with the Hungarian ambassador, referred to the recent incident with the singing of the Hungarian anthem by the UTO deputies in the Transcarpathian region, calling this situation unacceptable. The minister called on the Hungarian side to avoid steps and statements that create a “destructive emotional tension” in relations between Ukraine and Hungary.
The parties also discussed recent searches in the Transcarpathian region, which were carried out by the Security Service of Ukraine. Kuleba assured that the actions of the Ukrainian law enforcement officers are in no way directed against the Hungarian national minority.
“Any allegation that there is alleged ‘intimidation’ of the Hungarian community or a part of it in Ukraine is unfounded speculation. In Ukraine, as a state governed by the rule of law, the principle of individual, not collective, responsibility operates,” emphasized the Minister of Foreign Relations.
At the same time, Kuleba pointed out that all citizens of Ukraine are equal before the law, regardless of their nationality and ethnic origin.
Let us remind you that yesterday the SBU searched a foreign fund in Transcarpathia.
In addition, recently in the Transcarpathian region, information resources distributed a video with threats against Ukrainians of Hungarian origin. The police opened a criminal case and identified the perpetrators.
