The Ukrainian delegation to the trilateral contact group on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass proposes to organize an extraordinary meeting before the expiration of last year’s agreements of the leaders of the Normandy Four in Paris. This was announced by the spokesman for the Ukrainian delegation to the TCG Alexey Arestovich.

Ukraine offered to organize this week an extraordinary meeting of the trilateral contact group to resolve the situation in Donbas. Oleksiy Arestovich, the spokesman for the TCG’s Ukrainian delegation, announced this in a comment to the UNN on November 30.

According to him, the need to hold a meeting is related to the fact that on December 9 a year of last year’s agreements will expire, and before Christmas, after which “Europe will go on vacation”, there is a meeting regular contact group.

“A lot of urgent issues have not been resolved: clearance, withdrawal, exchange of prisoners, opening of the checkpoint. We officially proposed to accelerate all this through the OSCE mediator and hold an extraordinary meeting this week,” Arestovich stressed.

According to him, Ukraine offers full-blown negotiations, which include meetings of four subgroups and a general meeting.

In 2014, immediately after the annexation of Crimea, Russia launched an armed aggression in eastern Ukraine. The fighting is between the Armed Forces of Ukraine, on the one hand, and the Russian army and the Russian-backed militants who control parts of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions, on the other.

Negotiations on the resolution of the conflict in Donbass are taking place in the trilateral contact group in Minsk (Ukraine, Russia, OSCE), as well as in the Normandy format, with the participation of representatives of Ukraine, France, Germany and Russia. Representatives of the militants DPR and LPR are present at the talks in Minsk.

On December 9, 2019, Paris hosted the first summit in three years of the leaders of the Normandy Four: Ukraine, France, Germany and Russia, dedicated to the resolution of the conflict in the Donbass. The final communiqué establishes that the parties agreed to a ceasefire, the opening of new checkpoints, the exchange of detainees according to the formula of “all for all” until December 31, 2019, the withdrawal of forces and funds in three new areas in the Donbass, the extension of the law for one year. “On the special procedure for local self-government in certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions” and the extension of the mandate of the special OSCE monitoring mission.

The agreements were partially fulfilled, in particular, the exchange of detainees took place on two occasions.

Kravchuk said on November 5, 2020 that Kiev wants a new meeting of leaders of the Normandy format countries took place before the end of this year… He said leaders should discuss the conditions for holding local elections in ORDLO.
