Former Senegal midfielder Papa Bouba Diop has died at age 42.

According to the source, Diop suffered from Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease for a long time. It is an inherited sensory motor neuropathy in which muscle wasting occurs.

Papa Booba Diop became well known after scoring the first goal of the 2002 World Cup. His ball gave Senegal a sensational victory over France in the opening match of the tournament.
During his career, the central midfielder has played for Neuchâtel Xamax, Grasshopper, Lens, Fulham, Portsmouth, AEK, West Ham and Bigmingham. He retired in 2013.
As part of the Senegal national team, Diop played 63 games in which he scored 11 goals. He holds the team record for the number of goals in the world championships (3).
