Armenian President Armen Sarkissian called for the resignation of the government headed by Nikol Pashinyan. He also believes that new elections and a referendum on changes to the constitution should be held.

This was reported by the press service of the President of Armenia.

He stressed that in the situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, the resignation of the government should be a natural consequence.

“In any country where such a great tragedy has occurred, there is a solution: the government that led to this must leave. If a politician is strong, he can return. The last elections were two and a half years ago, when the country was completely different. Now we live in a different country, “Sargsyan said.

He also pointed out the need to create a balanced constitution in Armenia, which would not allow the Prime Minister or the President to make decisions alone.

“Every constitution, be it a presidential or parliamentary system of government, must include checks, balances and restraint mechanisms,” Sargsyan said.

Recall, after the defeat in the war with Azerbaijan, protests began in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan, demanding the departure of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan. In this context, on November 16, Armenian President Armen Sarkissian asked Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, together with the government, to resign. He also called on the country’s parliament to prepare for early elections.

As RBC-Ukraine reported, on November 10 an agreement was reached on a cease-fire in Nagorno-Karabakh and the introduction of Russian troops into the region. At the same time, Ukraine issued a statement that Russia has no reason to call in the military who were sent to the Nagorno Karabakh peacekeepers.
