Alexander Usik vs. Joe Joyce
In London there was a serious setback, the consequences of which we cannot ignore, since, with a high degree of probability, the next opponent of the Ukrainian has been determined Alexander Usik (18-0, 13 KOs) for a WBO heavyweight title that could well be vacant. Clarification: it is very likely that the champion Anthony Joshua (23-1, 21 KOs) will leave the belt and have a highly anticipated and financially lucrative fight with Tyson’s Fury (30-0-1, 21 KOs).
According to Joshua and his promoter Eddie hearnaThe title will be vacated if the WBO forces Anthony to defend it in the first half of 2021. Of course, Usyk won’t wait that long for his fight. Your name is not Elider alvarezand the british not even Adonis stevenson… Connoisseurs of boxing will understand this reference. The Colombian spent a lot of time as a mandatory challenger, taking advantage of the champion’s compensation, and then his fight for the belt ended in Alexandra Gvozdika… It’s a sad story, but this happens in boxing if you trust the promoter a lot.
But let’s get back to our pigeons. In the capital of the Kingdom of 35 years Joe joyce (12-0, 11 KOs) unexpectedly wins prospect by TKO Daniel Dubois (15-1, 14 KOs) and became the Commonwealth Champion of Europe and Great Britain.
At the time of this fight, Dubois was second to Usik in the WBO rankings. If Joshua leaves the title, then Alexander and Daniel would have to fight for the vacant title. However, Joyce won, who was ranked 11th after the last rating update in October. If the organization thinks logically, then Joe must take the place of a defeated opponent. However, promotional games can interfere, as a result of which the Ukrainian will fight with the third number: Joseph Parkerwith the intention of recovering one of the titles. Both boys are represented by Matchroom Boxing, and their fight is easier to organize than to negotiate with Hearn. Frank Warren and Queensberry Promotions on Joyce. At the same time, Warren is a longtime fan of Ukrainian talent and wants to work with him.
JOYCE AND USIK STORY
In 2013, Joyce met Usik in the WSB league. The Briton was then the undefeated representative of the Lion Hearts team, and Oleksandr was playing for the Ukrainian Atamans. For Joe, that fight was very sad, because he couldn’t get a quick opponent to punish him with stabbing blows. The boys’ “ring date” turned out to be interesting, but they were far from being “engaged”: the Ukrainian was then a very demanding “boyfriend” with excellent skills.
No one else declassified Joyce so mockingly, and later she was even able to win silver at the Rio de Janeiro Olympics.
FUTURE COMBAT – NEW STORY
The boys got to know each other well at WSB, but a lot has changed in more than seven years, and as a professional, Joyce has more skills to surprise the Ukrainian. And Joe understands this, because otherwise he wouldn’t have challenged Usik to fight immediately after defeating Dubois.
Joyce is not as clever and intelligent in the ring as himself Derrick Chisora… Joe from Arsenal remembers Deontay Wilder – worked to the automatism in one stroke, and everything else is an appendix. Dubois himself was better than his opponent in everything except jab and anthropometry which played a cruel joke. Daniel thought that everything would be fine when he scores holes in the opponent’s defense. And the young talent did … but then “wanted” to kneel in disappointment. The Briton’s head was so strong that Dubois’s most powerful blows were like mosquito bites. In the heavyweight division, a strong jaw is very important and Usyk has to face this challenge as well. It takes a crazy functional disposition to stop such a large opponent, first throwing a series of punches and then without hitting you with all of his 117 kilograms.
Let’s talk a bit about the British jab. This blow is underrated by many fans as it is unspectacular and does less damage. The best heavyweight power jab master in the past 20 years is considered Wladimir Klitschko… But Joyce’s career proved that she might as well compete with the legendary Ukrainian in this. Joe doesn’t have high speed, technique, timing, poor defense (why is it needed if there is a cast iron head?), But he is able to withstand all of Alexander’s attacks and terrorize him with a jab. At close range, the Brit will be able to use a clinch, and if Usyk misses a lot, he’s not ideal on defense, then a knockout can occur. Don’t forget about Joyce’s anthropometry. This is not Chisora, he will be taller than the Ukrainian and his arms are longer. It is very unpleasant when a scenario will come true where the former undisputed world champion in the first heavyweight division will not be able to go on the attack because of a jab that goes to the nose.
In our subjective opinion, Usyk needs to prepare very seriously for Joyce, as he could become the most difficult opponent of his career for him. Going out like with Chisora, missing a lot of unnecessary things, but then shaking the opponent several times and winning the decision, this is unlikely to work. But, despite Joyce’s advantages, it is Usyk who is the favorite of their duel. The speed and technique of the Ukrainian is the key to defeating British Avenue.
