Tragedy with mechanical ventilation: hospitals will be controlled throughout Ukraine

Stepanov was going to carry out checks in all the hospitals.

The power outages resulted in the death of two patients in intensive care, although there was an opportunity to use an emergency diesel generator.

Equipment checks in Ukrainian hospitals will be carried out after the death of two patients on a ventilator due to a power outage in the intensive care unit in the Lviv region, Health Minister Maxim Stepanov said, on his Facebook page on November 29.

“A commission was urgently sent to the site to find out all the circumstances. In addition, equipment checks will be carried out in all hospitals in the country,” Stepanov wrote.

The head of the Ministry of Health emphasized that after the blackout at the Zhovkva hospital, doctors fought for the lives of two patients, who were previously on a ventilator, with the help of an Ambu bag, but could not save themselves.

At the same time, the hospital where this happened was provided with an emergency diesel generator that did not start automatically. Stepanov pointed out that such situations are unacceptable.

After the incident, the deputy head of the President’s Office, Kirill Tymoshenko, announced plans “to order and draw personnel conclusions, including at the level of the regional state administration.”

Lviv Governor Maksim Kozitsky, in turn, wants to remove the chairman of the Zhovkiv Regional State Administration and the chief physician of the medical institution.

Earlier it was learned that Ukraine received the first 100 fans. 89 devices are in a warehouse in Kiev and will soon be shipped to regional hospitals. Another 11 will be delivered to seven hospitals in the capital and four hospitals in the Kiev region.

And in October it was announced that not a single fan of the COVID fund was bought.
