Police investigate the death of two ventilated patients

Two retirees died in the intensive care unit

There was no electricity in the Zhovkva hospital for an hour and a half. The institution has two power generators, but they were not used during the closure.

In the Lviv region, the police opened a criminal investigation into the deaths of two patients from the Zhovkva regional hospital, who were in intensive care with artificial lung ventilation (IVL) devices. This was reported by the regional department of the National Police on Sunday, November 29.

It is indicated that the message about the death of two patients appeared on social networks. Upon verifying this information, the police discovered that on November 27 there was no electricity at the Zhovkva hospital from 5:50 to 7:10 p.m.

“At this time, two residents of the town, aged 61 and 66, who were connected to ventilators, died in the intensive care unit. The preliminary cause of death is respiratory failure,” police said in a statement.

Police also found that the hospital has two electrical generators, but they were not used during the closure.

On this fact, criminal proceedings have been initiated for crimes provided for in the articles on official negligence and murder by negligence (part 2 of article 367, part 2 of article 119 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).

Earlier it was learned that Ukraine received the first 100 fans. 89 devices are in a warehouse in Kiev and will soon be shipped to regional hospitals. Another 11 will be delivered to seven hospitals in the capital and four hospitals in the Kiev region.

And in October it was announced that not a single fan of the COVID fund was bought. The devices were purchased by philanthropists and government agencies, and money from the coronavirus fund went toward building roads and outpatient clinics, additional payments to doctors and law enforcement officials, as well as social benefits.
